4. SWDP – To consider SWDP Review and impact on Cropthorne. Cllr Annis reported on the proposal for two
Site in Cropthorne, one in Blacksmiths Lane (23 homes) and a second in Middle Lane (13 homes). It was considered that the village needed to allow some development but on smaller scales, similar in size to the new homes at Sheppey Corner. Points raised:
a) Cropthorne has been designated as a Category 2 village, based on the bus service, no longer operation through the village. It was considered that this should be emphasised
b) With regard the large of the two sites, in Blacksmiths Lane, there is no obvious access to the site. The highway into Sheppey Corner has not been adopted by the County Council and is privately owned by residents.
c) Sewerage – it was considered that the current infrastructure is not capable of coping with the scale of development proposed
d) Road Access – Brook Lane, Jubilee Bridge and Charlton all flood regularly, and in such cases the only way in and out of Cropthorne is via Field Barn Lane, a single lane ‘C’ road
The clerk would draft a response based on the points raised for circulation to Cllrs before submitting
